Holidays stink for garbagemen

JAKARTA: Nobody wants to return home from a holiday to find a stinking bag of garbage still sitting in the middle of their yard.
The city administration, however, assures garbage pickups will follow the regular schedule during the Idul Fitri holidays.
The Jakarta Sanitation Agency will deploy 300 to 400 trucks and 5,000 employees to collect the trash, which is estimated to reach 100,000 cubic meters per day during the Idul Fitri holidays on Oct. 24 and 25.
"We have scheduled the garbagemen's days off so there will be plenty of employees on during the holidays," Governor Sutiyoso said Thursday at City Hall.
"Moreover, their work will be much easier because there will be less people in the city," he added. -- JP
