Indonesian worker from Blitar dies of malaria in Malaysia

Blitar, East Java (ANTARA News) - An Indonesian worker hailing from Blitar, East Java, Ana Anwar (30), was reported to have died of malaria in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

Information obtained from Anwar`s brother Sutaji in Blitar, on Wednesday, said the death of his younger brother was received from Anwar`s friends working in the neighboring country last week.

"Before his death, my younger brother complained that he was having a high fever and headache. In fact he was suffering from malaria. But when he was rushed to a hospital, his life could not be saved," Sutadji said.

The dead body of his brother was still kept in Meing Sing Hospital, Taman Pantai Timur, Johor Bahru.

When we heard about his death, we on behalf of the bereaved family asked for the return of the dead body for burial in Blitar, he said.

In the meantime, on a separate occasion, Secretary General of the East Java Migrant Workers Alliance (ABM) Ja`far Shodiq said his side was still coordinating the necessary steps with ABM branch office in Malaysia.

"We have asked for data on the cause of Anwar`s death and status of the victim during his employment in Malaysia. The next step is getting assistance from the Blitar district administration to arrange the return of the dead body from Malaysia," he said.

He also asked the labor recruiting agency to be responsible for the dead body`s return eventhough Anwar had entered Malaysia illegally. (*)
